Women of Sufism: A Hidden Treasure - Selected and Introduced by Camille Helminski
Writings and Stories of Mystic Poets, Scholars & Saints.
The luminous presence of women who follow the Sufi Way - the mystical path of Islam - is brought to life here through their sacred songs and poetry, their dreams and visions, and stories of their efforts as they witness the Truth in many realms. These writings reflect the honor and respect for the feminine in the Sufi worldview, and they are shared in the spirit of inspiration and hope for the flourishing contributions of women to the spiritual development of humanity.
Spanning the centuries, from the time of the Prophet Muhammed to the present day, the selections are by or about an array of Sufi traditions in different parts of the world, from Asia, Africa and the Middle East to Europe and America -- from beloved members of the Prophet's family to the mystic Rabi'a al-Adawiyya to the modern scholar Annemarie Schimmel. Biographical anecdotes and personal memoirs provide a glimpse into the experiences of great saints and contemporary practitioners alike, while providing an introduction to the principles and practices of Sufism.
"Women of Sufism is a valuable addition to Sufi literature and women's spiritual studies. Camille Helminski awakens us to the important contribution of women to this mystical tradition." - Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Ph. D., author of Sufism: The Transformation of the Heart
304 pages, Paperback, ISBN 1570629676.
The Knowing Heart: A Sufi Path of Transformation - Kabir Helminski
It is possible to open up to the experience of love through a practical education of the heart. The knowing heart is receptive to the intelligence of Being and is guided by Being. When the heart is awakened and purified, it establishes a connection to Spirit; our finest and noblest capacities are unlocked, our sacred humanness is revealed. What it comes down to, the distillation of all wisdoms, is this: we can rejoin our isolated wills with Loves Will through the knowing of the heart.
Truly in the rememberance of God hearts find rest. - Quran 23:28
"Sufism, which has been described as the mystic heart of Islam, is little known and little understood in this country despite the advocacy of popularizers such as Idries Shah. Helminski, a Mevlevi Shaikh and translator of the great Sufi poet Rumi, offers a clear and well-grounded introduction to Sufism, liberally seasoned with insights from the Koran and the writings of Rumi; his is perhaps the best beginners guide now available. For most libraries." Library Journal, May 1, 1999

Living Presence: A Sufi Way to Mindfulness & the Essential Self - Kabir Helminski
"A heartfelt modern illumination of the Sufi path, filled with the fragrance of the ancients." -- Jack Kornfield, author, psychologist, Buddhist teacher
"This is an excellent book that explains spiritual principles and how to carry them into everyday life... in language that is simple, straightforward, and down to earth, yet profound. While the authors viewpoint is Sufi and Islamic, the principles presented are universal, and few cultural overlays intrude on the text, making it accessible to Westerners. Highly recommended." -- Library Journal
"Sober, thoughtful, and well worth deep reflection... concerned with our interactions with one another, with cultivating love and a desire to serve the Highest through serving each other. This is a valuable emphasis in a culture like ours that tends to think of spiritual development as special and solitary experiences. I think the salvation of our cultures and our planet will be based on the quality of attention, love, and presence we learn to give one another." -- Charles Tart, Noetic Sciences Review
"His book is intended to help us fall in love with Spirit." -- Yoga Journal
"I recommend this book without reservations to all seekers of truth, regardless of their discipline. This book would be of value to psychologists, Buddhists, Sufis -- in fact all who wish to challenge their life views in the light of this well-thought-out presentation of the challenges of being human." -- Vasheesht Davenport, The Sound

Inspirations on the Path of Blame - Shaikh Badruddin
In Inspirations (Waridat), Shaikh Badruddin interpreted many essential concepts of Islamic theology in an original and personal way which seems strikingly meaningful today. Melamiyya, or the path of blame, is an approach to spiritual development within Islamic Sufism that avoids the appearance of piety and challenges the self-satisfaction of the ego. This book includes extensive historical and introductory information revealing the significance of the path of blame as a method for transforming the hypocrisy of the ego and coming to sincerity.
Chapters include: The Nature of Reality; The Human Being; The Reality of Muhammad; The Limitations of Physical Existence; Jesus Christ.
Shaikh Badruddin of Simawna (d. 1420) was a famous scholar and saint from the European region of the Ottoman realm. He inspired one of the first peoples revolutions in history.
