Ebrű: Contemporary Marbling by Feridun Özgören

October 15, 1999 - April 12, 2000

Islamic Corridor

Paper marbling, ebrű in Turkish, is a traditional art of the Islamic world. The marbler creates the colorful, swirling patterns of ebrű by floating paints on a liquid and picking them up on paper. Feridun Özgören, a Turkish artist living in Boston, adapts traditional ebrű to large paper sheets and uses hand-cut stencils to add Arabic, Turkish, or Persian calligraphy to his marbled compostitions. Twelve of his calligraphic ebrű works are currently on view.
